Description

Freestanding single-bay single-stage rubble stone lime kiln, c.1820, on a square plan. Now disused. Random rubble stone walls with lime mortar. Elliptical-headed opening to oven with chamfered reveals leading to elliptical-headed lower opening having red brick dressings. Set back from line of road in own grounds adjacent to lime quarry (now decommissioned) with forecourt having random rubble stone boundary wall.

Appraisal

This lime kiln is of considerable significance as an example of a small-scale communal structure of industrial heritage significance. The lime kiln forms a picturesque feature in the locality, the rubble stone construction assimilating well into the mature landscape.
