Extended, c.1975, comprising four-bay two-storey flat-roofed lower block to north-west. Now in use as offices. Hipped slate roofs with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, and profiled cast-iron rainwater goods on moulded cut-stone eaves. Flat roof to additional block behind parapet. Unpainted rendered, ruled and lined walls with moulded rendered courses, and cut-stone cornice on consoles. Square-headed window openings (some in tripartite arrangement) with rendered sills (some forming moulded continuous sill courses). 1/1 timber sash windows. Square-headed window openings to box bay windows with moulded rendered sills, 1/1 timber sash windows with pilaster motifs, fixed-pane sidelights, and moulded cornices over. Square-headed door opening to advanced porch approached by flight of five-cut-limestone curved steps having unpainted rendered swept walls with iron lamp holders, rendered pilaster doorcase, timber panelled door with pilaster motifs, sidelights, overlights, and rendered frieze over with moulded cornice having panelled blocking course over. Set back from road in own grounds with tarmacadam forecourt, and landscaped grounds to site.
An attractive, substantial house, which has been very well maintained to present an early aspect, retaining important salient features and materials. A later block has been designed in a style that reflects the proportions and appearance of the original block. Finely detailed, the house incorporates decorative rendered and cut-stone dressings, while the advanced corner bays to the north-east are architectural features that add interest and variety to the plan and elevations. Located in landscaped grounds and complemented by an attendant gate lodge (22831004/WD-09-31-04), the site contributes to the historic character of the locality.
