Description

Pair of terraced two-bay three-storey houses, built c.1860, originally with carriage arches to either end. Pitched (shared) natural slate roof with clay ridge tiles, coursed limestone chimneystacks, and cast-iron rainwatergoods. Unpainted rendered walls with rendered channelled piers to ends. Square-headed window openings with stone sills, and replacement uPVC casement windows, pre-1999. Round-headed door opening with cut-limestone steps, rendered surround, timber panelled door, and spoked fanlight. Set back from line of road with sections of wrought iron railings to forecourt on unpainted rendered plinth.

Appraisal

A handsome, well-proportioned house incorporating reserved detailing, which retains its original form and massing, but the external expression of which has been undermined by the replacement fittings to the window openings. Nevertheless, the house contributes to the formal streetscape value of South Parade.
