Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1910, with inscribed “ER VII” royal cipher. Set in random rubble stone boundary wall.
A discreet item of street furniture, this post box is of interest as an example of early-surviving mass-produced cast-iron, while the raised elements contribute to the artistic design quality of the piece. The royal cipher, in particular, is of significance as a tangible reminder of the period when Ireland was part of the British Empire.
