Gateway, c.1840, comprising pair of limestone ashlar piers having inscribed detailing, chamfered corners, cut-stone stringcourses with inscribed lettering, profiled capping, and section of wrought iron curved railings to north on unpainted rendered plinth extending to limestone ashlar terminating piers having inscribed detailing, chamfered corners, cut-stone stringcourses, profiled capping, and sections of random rubble stone flanking boundary walls to perimeter of site. Gates and section of wrought iron railings to south now missing. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Derriheen House.
An attractive gateway forming a picturesque feature fronting directly on to the streetscape. The construction of the piers attests to high quality stone masonry, particularly in the instances of the inscribed detailing, while the survival of a section of original wrought iron railings enhances the visual appeal of the composition.
