Semi-detached three-bay two-storey local authority house, c.1930. Refenestrated, c.1980. One of a pair. Pitched (shared) artificial slate roof with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, rendered coping, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Painted rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills, and replacement timber casement windows, c.1980. Square-headed door opening with rendered surround having moulded entablature over, and replacement glazed timber panelled door, c.1980. Set back from road in own grounds with forecourt having unpainted rendered boundary wall, and wrought iron gate.
A well-proportioned, modest-scale house, built as one of a pair (with 22805015/WD-15-08-15) forming part of a larger group of sixteen houses (with 22805007 – 14, 17 - 18, 47 - 48/WD-15-08-07 – 14, 17 - 18, 47 - 48). Although most of the original form and massing remains intact, the replacement of the original fittings to the openings with unsympathetic modern articles has not had a positive impact on the external expression of the composition. The house, together with the remainder of the group, is of particular importance as a reminder of the emphasis placed on social houses following the establishment of the Independent State. The house forms an attractive feature on uniform appearance in the streetscape leading into the centre of Kilmacthomas.
