Description

Single-arch rubble stone road bridge over canal, c.1830. Now disused. Random rubble stone walls with rubble stone vertical coping to parapets (some sections missing). Single elliptical arch with rubble stone voussoirs, and squared rubble stone soffits having traces of lime render over. Rubble stone deck now overgrown. Sited spanning Clodiagh Canal with unpainted roughcast lime rendered retaining walls to canal over random rubble stone construction.

Appraisal

An elegantly-composed bridge forming an attractive landmark on the Clodiagh Canal, the rubble stone construction assimilating into the surrounding landscape. Although now disused, the retention of the original profile to the arch identifies the civil engineering heritage significance of the composition.
