Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1910, with inscribed 'ER VII' royal cipher. Now disused. Mounted into red brick Flemish bond wall.

Appraisal

An attractive, discreet item of street furniture, which represents an early surviving feature of mass-produced cast-iron. The inscribed royal cipher is of some artistic interest and emphasises the historic importance of the artefact, as evidence of Ireland as part of the British Empire.
