Description

Three-arch road bridge over River Multeen, built c. 1810, one arch now disused. Coursed roughly dressed limestone walls with ashlar V-plan cutwaters to north elevation having pyramidal caps. Segmental arches with ashlar limestone voussoirs and having fluted limestone keystones to south elevation.

Appraisal

The simple form of this road bridge is enlivened by the textural contrast created by the roughly dressed limestone walls and the ashlar voussoirs. This bridge, although of standard form, is unusual as the keystones are skilfully decorated with a fluted motif. These keystones add decorative interest to the otherwise purely functional design of the bridge.
