Single-arch limestone railway bridge, built c. 1862, having abutments to east and west elevations. Snecked rusticated walls with cut copings. Parapet walls and square-headed arch rebuilt with concrete blocks.
The Great Southern and Western Railway company built this bridge which lies on the Charleville Junction to Patrickswell line. The line was opened in 1862. The former railway bridge is characteristic of such functional structures built throughout Ireland in the nineteenth century. Its rusticated walls give the structure a sense of solidity and strength, which is balanced by the well carved dressings. The bridge is indicative of the quality of contemporary engineering and local craftsmen's skills.
