Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1920, with raised post-office lettering and makers mark. Rectangular aperture and display panel. Set into boundary wall.

Appraisal

This post box is an attractive item of street furniture which is in continuous use and remains in good condition. It is a fine example of early mass-produced cast-iron. The raised lettering, indicating that it was produced by W.T. Allen & Co., London, is all that remains by way of decoration. It may have had a British royal cipher on the door, which may have been removed when Ireland gained independence.
