Description

Cast-iron post box, c.1890, set into a rubble stone wall. Profiled edges with V.R. insignia and crown motif and foundry name W.T.Allen & Co. London at base.

Appraisal

This post box, with its Queen Victoria monogram, is a reminder of the time when Ireland formed part of the British Empire. It is an interesting physical reminder of Ireland's colonial past, and is a small but excellently designed example of high quality mass produced cast-iron.
