Description
Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1940, with P&T and manufacturer’s insignia. Rectangular aperture and display panel enclosed by raised reveal. Set into boundary wall at roadside.
Appraisal
The simple functional form of this post box is enhanced by the P&T and manufacturer’s mark. It serves as a reminder of mid twentieth century Ireland, when the Postal and Telegraphs insignia replaced the Royal British monograms of the previous administration. Post-boxes of this period are becoming increasingly rare.
