Single-span cast-iron foot bridge over railway track, erected 1862, with staircases to north elevation, one to each platform. Depressed-arch bridge supported on eight cast-iron columns with fluted bases, decorative caps and adjoining spandrels, four to each platform. Latticed parapets to bridge and staircases. Base of staircases terminated by decorative cast-iron colonettes. Maker's mark to column shaft.
A good example of nineteenth century engineering, this intact cast-iron footbridge features well-executed decorative detailing and still serves its original purpose. It is one of a group of related railway structures including the station and station master's house. This complex of structures adds significantly to the civil engineering heritage of the area.
