Appraisal

A fine example of the quality of craftsmanship employed by the railway authority in the construction of their utilitarian structures throughout the latter half of the nineteenth century. The composition employs materials of superior quality along with well-executed and considered detailing. The use of red brick together with carved limestone quoins provides textural interest and chromatic variation. It is one of a group of related railway structures including the foot bridge and station master's house.
