Description

Freestanding hexagonal-plan concrete built water tower, built 1954. Concrete cornice and string course to reservoir. Steel parapet railings. Recessed panels to shaft with square-headed fixed pane windows and vertically channelled rendered detailing joining windows vertically.

Appraisal

Part of large coherently planned group of hospital structures, built as Tuberculosis Sanatorium under Doctor Noel Browne as Minister for Health. The water tower is interesting example of industrial heritage, which adds context to the site. The simple form is enhanced by restrained decorative render.
