Appraisal

This monumental entrance exhibits ornate detailing and fine craftsmanship and forms a grand entrance to Castlelohort. The limestone masonry was clearly executed by skilled craftsmen, and the contrasting coursed rubble walls and limestone ashlar piers add textural interest to the site. The detailing to the stone piers is enhanced by the decorative details applied to the wrought-iron gates.
