Cast-iron railings, erected c.1880, previously forming entrance to Carrigmore located to the west, now demolished. V-plan dressed ashlar limestone plinth, on rubble stone wall to south, surmounted by cast-iron railings having spearhead finials. Square-profile limestone gate piers to north having carved caps, string course and recessed round-headed panels to shafts. Former gate lodge to west, now in use as offices.
Built to form the entrance to Carrigmore, which is no longer extant, these railings and associated gate piers would have provided an elegant composition, announcing the presence of the house. The stonework and detailing of the cast-iron work are indicative of the technical adeptness of nineteenth-century craftsmen. The railings continue to form an important component in the streetscape.
