Single-arch rubble stone road bridge over tidal river, built c.1800, having lean-to building to north-east elevation of northern pier. Round-headed arch with dressed limestone voussoirs and rubble stone soffit. Roughly dressed limestone walls with rubble stone parapets. Concave wall to south-western pier wall. Later bridge widening with steel girders, having tubular steel railings to parapet. Tarmac road over bridge. Rubble stone walls to leant-to, having corrugated-iron roof and square-headed door opening. Later ten-span rubble stone bridge to south-east with square-headed arches.
This fine bridge serves as a reminder of the high quality of the engineering and local craftsmen's skills in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Slightly modified for wider vehicles, the bridge still functions as an essential transport link.
