Detached three-bay two-storey house over basement, built c.1820, having five-bay side elevation to sea (east). Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls . Round-headed doorcase having Ionic columns and pair of timber glazed doors, approached by flight of limestone steps with wrought-iron railings. Square-headed openings with timber casement windows and moulded render surrounds. Cast-iron sill guards to first floor openings.
Located on an elevated site, this house makes the most of its seaside location. Built in the nineteenth century when Passage West became a fashionable seaside resort, this fine house is one of several substantial imposing dwellings built by wealthy merchants in the area at the time. Though some of the grounds have been lost to recent development, the house retains much of its historic fabric intact.
