Description

Attached two-bay two-storey house, built c.1840, having timber shopfront to ground floor. Formerly also in use as shop. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack, eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings throughout, having lead clad sills to first floor and painted sill to ground floor opening. Two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows throughout. Timber shopfront comprising narrow pilasters, surmounted by fascia and lead clad cornice. Square-headed window opening over render stall riser, having fixed timber-framed display window. Square-headed door opening with double-leaf glazed timber doors, surmounted by single-pane overlight. Fronting directly onto street.

Appraisal

As part of a long terrace of mixed residential and commercial properties, this house is an integral element of the streetscape, noteworthy for its retention of historical fabric and features, including sash windows and understated shopfront.
