Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c.1905. Having 'E.R. VII' royal cipher with crown motif in relief and manufacturer's mark 'W T Allen & Co. London'. Set in rubble limestone wall.

Appraisal

This fine post box is a good example of early mass-produced cast-iron work, with its raised relief features enhancing its design. The royal cipher and crown motif are of special interest as a physical reminder of Ireland’s former relationship with the British Empire.
