Description

Triple-arch limestone road bridge over River Dissour, built 1838. Ashlar walls, with inscribed plaques, rounded copings, string courses and cut voussoirs to segmental-headed arches. Stepped u-shaped cutwaters to west elevation. Square-profile piers with carved caps and benchmark to north-west pier.

Appraisal

Fine bridge, built by R. Joyce, of fine architectural and engineering detailing and design. The ashlar masonry is indicative of the skill of nineteenth century craftsmen. The plaque on bridge reads: 'R. Joyce Builder A. D. 1838'.
