Appraisal

This is an early nineteenth-century house which, in spite of recent alterations, retains much of its early character in distinctive elements. The rear of the house may date to the late eighteenth century as suggested by a steep roof pitch and the arrangement of windows. A regency bowed extension, the bow being a characteristic architectural feature of the locality, may have been added in the early nineteenth century, a prosperous time for Charleville during which much building was undertaken. Later nineteenth-century alterations may include the re-rendering of the façade to include fashionable Gothic elements. This attractive and interesting building occupies an important position, terminating the streetscape at the northern end of the town.
