Street furniture to Buttevant town, c. 1900, comprising limestone kerbing to pavements along Main Street and Barrack Place and to former carriage entrances. Limestone drains to pavements, leading from down pipe to gutter. Painted cast-iron water hydrants, having fluted shafts, acorn finials and cast-iron drains.
These traditional items of street furniture form an integral part of the historic streetscape. The water hydrants add colour and mid-nineteenth-century interest, while the limestone kerbing and cobbling and the cast-iron drains are reminiscent of the early twentieth century, exhibiting fine craftsmanship. The limestone drains in the pavements show an interesting technical and aesthetic solution to the problem of drainage in the town.
