Description

Detached industrial building with corner tower; formerly part of Henry Ford & Son Motor Works, c. 1920. Now altered and in light industrial use. Roof concealed by parapet; cast-iron rainwater goods with original hopper heads. concrete blockwork construction; glazed bricks to east elevation. South elevation has first floor raised on pilotis. High level steel-framed glazing, partly filled in with concrete to west elevation. Loading bays with roller shutters. To interior, exposed concrete blockwork and exposed metal roof trusses.

Appraisal

Industrial building retaining strong early twentieth-century industrial design appearance, although many details now altered insensitively; significant as part of Henry Ford & Son Motor Works. Probably designed by the American architect Albert Kahn who acted as the main industrial architect for the Ford Motor Company.
