Entrance gateway erected, c. 1765, restored 1863. Inner and outer pair of rusticated limestone piers with pineapple and urn finials, moulded cornice to cap stone, moulded plinth course and plain plinth band. Inner pair of piers dated. Ashlar limestone walls, wrought iron railings and pair of wrought iron gates. Chamfered plinth band with rubble base to sloping street.
Gateway to one of Cork's most distinctive landmarks, St. Finbar's Cathedral, designed by its architect William Burges. Significant in its association with the Cathedral and for the high quality of its design.
