Romantic toy castle style gate screen and gate lodge to Fortgranite House, built c.1830. The screen consists of a pair of two-stage towers either side of a pointed arch carriageway with a three-bay single-storey gate lodge attached to the rear. The whole ensemble is constructed in rubble with the lower stage of each tower treated as a bevelled base course, dressed granite voussoirs to the gateway, brick dressings of the openings to the lodge and crenellated parapets to all sections. The lodge has a slated hipped roof with granite chimneystack, a pointed arch-headed entrance with timber door, and pointed arch-headed windows with two over two timber sash frames. The towers have pointed arch-headed entrances and blind slit windows. The gateway has mildly decorative iron gates. The gate screen has a roadside setting.
Memorable early 19th-century toy castle style gate screen with lodge, which adds interest to the rural landscape of this area.
