Appraisal

A farmhouse erected for Charles Jacob (d. 1867; Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1867, 164) representing an integral component of the mid nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of south County Wexford with the architectural value of the composition, one rooted firmly in the prevailing late Georgian fashion, suggested by such attributes as the compact plan form centred on a Classically-detailed doorcase identical to Thorn Ville (see 15704763) and nearby Bushville (see 15704805), albeit one largely concealed behind a recent polygonal porch; and the uniform or near-uniform proportions of the openings on each floor. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of a farmhouse having historic connections with the Jacob family including Bostock Jacob (1828-1906), 'Gentleman Farmer later of Rathdowney County Wexford' (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1906, 233); James Bostock Jacob (1855-1915) of Fulham (cf. 15704820); Francis Bostock Jacob (----), 'Farmer' (NA 1911); and Anthony Claude Bostock Jacob (1927-53), student of architecture under Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959; Campbell College Register 1954).
