Description

Gateway, extant 1840, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of part creeper- or ivy-covered piers having cut-granite capping centred on bellcote-topped pointed-arch opening with red brick voussoirs framing arrow head-detailed wrought iron double gates. Road fronted.

Appraisal

An eye-catching gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a rural street scene, but also surviving as an interesting relic of the late eighteenth-century Davidstown Catholic Chapel (1791), 'a neat building' superseded (1856) by the adjacent Saint David's Catholic Church (see 15702541).
