Gateway, built 1862, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of cut-granite panelled piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having "Acroterion"-detailed cornice capping on rosette-detailed friezes supporting cast-iron double gates with cut-granite panelled outer piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having shallow pyramidal capping on blind friezes supporting cast-iron serpentine railings. Installed, 1977. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Farmley House.
A gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Farmley House estate but also, emblazoned with the intertwined Carew-Cliffe monogram ("CC"), surviving as a repurposed relic of the Castleboro House estate (cf. 15702508).
