Appraisal

A farmhouse representing an integral component of the nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of the outskirts of Clogh with the architectural value of the composition, one rooted firmly in the prevailing late Georgian fashion, confirmed by such attributes as the compact plan form centred on a restrained doorcase showing a pretty radial fanlight; and the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression. A prolonged period of unoccupancy notwithstanding, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of the composition. Furthermore, adjacent "tin roofed" outbuildings (extant 1839) continue to contribute positively to the group and setting values of a self-contained ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in a rural street scene.
