Description

Freestanding single-bay single-stage gable-fronted mausoleum, ----, on a rectangular plan. Pitched (gable-fronted) slate roof with cut-granite ridge, and no rainwater goods surviving on rendered eaves. Rendered, ruled and lined battered walls. Tudor-headed door opening with cut-granite step threshold, and cut-granite surround framing cast-iron door. Set in landscaped grounds shared with Saint Brigid's Church (Kilrush).

Appraisal

A mausoleum contributing positively to the group and setting values of Saint Brigid's Church (Kilrush) with the architectural value of the composition, one erected for the internment of members of the Devereux family of nearby Ballyrankin House (see 15700918), confirmed by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form centred on a streamlined doorcase demonstrating good quality workmanship in a silver-grey granite; the feint battered silhouette; and the high pitched roof showing a slab-like slate finish.
