Description

Gateway, designed 1859, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of granite ashlar piers on chamfered plinths having "Cavetto"-detailed shallow pyramidal capping supporting crocketed wrought iron double gates with granite ashlar outer piers on chamfered plinths having "Cavetto"-detailed shallow pyramidal capping supporting crocketed wrought iron railings. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Saint Mary's National School.

Appraisal

A gateway surviving as an interesting relic of the Enniscorthy District Model School designed (1859) by James Higgins Owen (1822-91), Architect to the Board of Public Works (appointed 1856).
