[Description Withheld]
A house erected for Captain Robert Owen (----), Deputy Vice-Chairman of the Gorey Board of Guardians (elected 1840), representing an important component of the early nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of Gorey with the architectural value of the composition, 'an interesting and amusing multi-bowed house' recalling the contemporary Ardcandrisk House (1833) near Wexford (see 15703718; Craig and Garner 1973, 64), confirmed by such attributes as the compact, albeit multi-faceted plan form; the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression with the principal "apartments" defined by curvilinear or polygonal bows; and the decorative timber work embellishing a slightly oversailing roofline. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original or sympathetically replicated fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior where contemporary joinery; chimneypieces; and plasterwork refinements, all highlight the artistic potential of the composition. Furthermore, adjacent stable outbuildings (extant 1840) continue to contribute positively to the group and setting values of a self-contained ensemble having subsequent connections with Michael Joseph Redmond JP (1841-1909), 'Gentleman and Magistrate late of Millmount Gorey County Wexford' (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1909, 504); Joseph Quinn (----), 'Gentleman Farmer' (NA 1911); and Lady Eleanor Mary McGrath (née McAllister) (----; The Catholic Who's Who and Yearbook 1924, 304).
