Gateway, extant 1941, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of cruciform-detailed granite ashlar panelled piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below ball finial-topped capping supporting wrought iron double gates with cruciform-detailed granite ashlar panelled outer piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below ball finial-topped capping supporting wrought iron gates. Street fronted at entrance to grounds of Summerhill House.
Appraisal
A gateway forming part of a self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 15504019) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Summerhill House estate.
