Description

Attached three-bay three-storey bank, c.1975, on a corner site with two-bay three-storey side (north) elevation. Renovated, pre-1993, with replacement 'shopfront' inserted to ground floor. Hipped fibre-cement slate roof with clay ridge tiles, and iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills, six-over-six (first floor) and six-over-three (top floor) timber sash windows. Replacement polished granite-clad 'shopfront', pre-1993, to ground floor with fixed-pane windows, double doors, door to upper floors, and polished pink granite-clad fascia in limestone-clad surround. Street fronted on a corner site with concrete brick cobbled footpath to front.

Appraisal

Occupying a prominent corner position once accommodating a late eighteenth-century tholsel (built 1792; demolished, 1898), a late twentieth-century range exhibiting an unconvincing pastiche design programme remains of minimal architectural heritage interest at present.
