Description

Artificial harbour, completed 1824, on a crescent-shaped plan with granite ashlar battered walls having cut-granite coping. Set opening off Wexford Harbour.

Appraisal

An artificial harbour designed by Thomas Connick (d. 1849) of Monck Street representing an important component of the early nineteenth-century built heritage of Wexford. NOTE: Recent dredging (1995) revealed a cobbled basin which subsequently re-silted over.
