Freestanding cut-granite trough, installed 1938. Now disused. Street fronted on concrete brick cobbled footpath.
A trough presented by the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association (established 1859) representing an integral component of the twentieth-century built heritage of Wexford (cf. 15505088). NOTE: Minutes from Wexford Corporation (1938) reveal that it was 'agreed that the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association, who had presented the tough at Trinity Street in 1903, [would] be asked to present a further structure for use in the north end of the town' with the Corporation 'prepared to give an undertaking that both would be maintained in good order and kept supplied with water'. The Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association 'agreed to present a structure to the Corporation if they undertook to keep it in repair and supplied with pure water' and 'an appeal was made [by the Finance and Waterworks and Public Health Committee] that these water fountains should be respected, as in the past they had cost the Corporation a considerable amount of money to maintain owing to damage by irresponsible people' (Wexford County Archive).
