End-of-terrace four-bay two-storey house, c.1800, renovated in 1869, shopfront inserted to east end, c.1900, and second shopfront added to west end, c.1975. Pitched natural slate roof with overhanging eaves. Ruled-and-lined rendered walls with raised block quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings to first floor with block-and-start surrounds, cut stone sills and replacement windows. Round-headed doorcase with block-and-start surrounds, timber panelled door with plain fanlight over. Shopfront, c.1900, to east end with timber pilasters, consoles brackets and fascia board with cornice over. Modern shopfront to west. Road-fronted.
An attractive and well-proportioned late eighteenth/early nineteenth-century building which retains much of its character. Much of the existing decoration dates from a major renovation in 1869 and this work rests nicely with the earlier fabric. The remains of the traditional timber shopfront to the east is of particular note and is of artistic merit. Shopfronts of this nature are very quickly become rare in the larger Irish towns. It remains an important part of the historic streetscape of the east bank of Athlone.
