Three-span railway bridge over road and canal, opened 1851. Rock faced limestone ashlar walls with margined rock faced limestone ashlar piers supporting cast-iron railing-topped limestone ashlar parapets on cut-limestone stringcourses. Single round central arch with margined rock faced limestone ashlar radiating voussoirs centred on cut-limestone keystone. Sited spanning road and canal.
A bridge identified as an integral component of the mid nineteenth-century civil engineering heritage of Athlone on account of the development of the Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) line opened (1851) by the Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) Company.
