Stone weir with waterfall, built c.1870, located within Birr Castle demesne.
There may originally have been some waterfall at this site, near where a succession of bridges stood, until each were washed away in floods. This present waterfall and weir may date to the 1870s when the fourth Earl harnessed the Camcor for electricity and created this waterfall as an exercise in landscaping beneath the castle and to complement the weir to the side and the channel to serve as a headrace to the turbine house. The weir and waterfall form part of a diverse group of structures within Birr Castle demesne.
