Description

Roman Catholic cemetery, c.1780. Variety of limestone, slate and cast-iron grave markers, dating to eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Remains of east and west walls of medieval church to site, with St. Dympna's Well to east. Rubble limestone boundary wall. Site extended, c.1969, to south with variety of limestone and marble grave markers and tall marble cross to centre. Rendered gate piers with cast-iron gates to entrance.

Appraisal

A wide variety of materials including slate, limestone, marble and cast-iron are used for the grave markers in the cemetery. The remains of the medieval church and holy well are reminders that this site has been a focus of religious activity for centuries.
