Description

Two pairs of roughly dressed limestone gate piers, c.1780, with cast-iron single and double gates. Ashlar flat arches to pedestrian gates, one now blocked. Ashlar caps and copings to piers and flat arches.

Appraisal

The dressed limestone and ashlar dressings used in the construction of these gate piers are set in rubble limestone walls, which provide interesting textural variations to the site. The simple cast-iron gates are enlivened by the inclusion of a stamped shamrock motif at the top of the railings. These gates form part of a group with the related structures in the demesne.
