Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, erected c.1890, with raised "VR" royal cipher. Set into the punch dressed limestone ashlar walling of the railway station.

Appraisal

An early surviving artefact of mass-produced cast-iron. Raised details contribute significantly to the artistic design quality of the piece. The royal cipher serves as a tangible reminder of the period when Ireland formed part of the British Empire.
