Single-arch railway bridge over road, opened 1853. Coursed rock-faced cut-limestone walls with buttresses having cut-limestone coping, and cut-limestone stringcourse supporting cut-limestone blocking course with sections of replacement steel railings, c.1975, over. Single segmental arch resting on tooled cut-limestone course with tooled limestone ashlar voussoirs, and squared rubble stone soffits. Sited spanning road.
A well-composed bridge forming an important element of the civil engineering heritage of County Kilkenny on account of the associations with the development of the Waterford and Maryborough [Portlaoise] Branch extension of the Great Southern and Western Railway line by the Waterford and Kilkenny Railway Company. The construction in rock-faced limestone produces an appealing textured visual effect in the street scene while finely tooled limestone ashlar accents display high quality stone masonry.
