Freestanding cast-iron pillar post box, between 1901-10, with raised "ER VII" royal cipher, moulded necking, and shallow domed capping. Road fronted on concrete footpath.
Supplied by the Handyside Foundry of Derby and London a post box representing an early-surviving artefact of mass-produced cast-iron work makes a pleasing, if subtle visual statement in the streetscape. Raised details contributing to the design aesthetic of the composition include a royal cipher of particular importance as a tangible reminder of the period when Ireland formed part of the British Empire.
