Description

Single-arch rubble stone road bridge over river, c.1825. Random rubble stone walls with rubble stone buttressed piers, and rendered rounded rubble stone coping. Single round arch with dressed rubble stone shallow voussoirs, and rubble stone soffits. Set back from road in grounds originally shared with Castlecomer House sited spanning tributary of Dinin River with grass banks to river.

Appraisal

Originally forming an integral component of the Castlecomer House estate an elegantly-appointed modest-scale bridge makes a dramatic visual impression rising above a tributary of the Dinin River. Exhibiting a traditional construction in unrefined locally-sourced stone with barely-dressed accents the bridge integrates pleasantly into the surrounding semi-rural landscape.
