Description

Single-span granite ashlar footbridge over river, c.1840. Coursed rock-faced granite ashlar walls to abutments. Rock-faced granite ashlar coping. Single square-headed span. Cut-stone lintel. Rubble stone soffits. Sited spanning Graney River.

Appraisal

This footbridge is a fine stone structure that forms a picturesque feature on the Graney River and is one of a group of bridges on the section of that river that passes through County Kildare. The construction of the span is of technical and engineering merit. The bridge exhibits good quality stone masonry and fine, crisp joints.
