Pair of semi-detached two-bay single-storey cottages, c.1850. Now disused and part derelict. Gable-ended roof (shared) with slate. Clay ridge tiles. Red brick chimney stacks. Remains of cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast walls. Unpainted. Square-headed openings. Stone sills. Openings now boarded-up. Road fronted. Tarmacadam footpath to front.
This pair of cottages, which are now disused and in the early stages of dereliction, is of some social and historical significance, representing the dwellings of the majority of the population of Kildare town in the mid nineteenth century. The cottages nevertheless retain most of their original form and allude to a vernacular style, with small openings to the walls. The cottages retain some early or original features and materials, including slate roofs, and are an unassuming feature on the streetscape of White Abbey Road.
